A Sistah's #1 Enemy

$230.00

This hat was uniquely designed to demonstrate the hardship that America places upon African American women- specifically in healthcare. The colors of the nation (red, white, and blue) are purposefully distressed unto this hat to display struggle and disarray. The usage of the color red depicts blood running running down from the tip of the crown. Because it as a FACT that the African American woman can give birth to all peoples, the phrase, “THE BEARER TO ALL HUMANITY” is woodburned along the side of the hat.

There are significant disparities between healthcare in America and black women. In comparison to Caucasian women, African- American women have higher rates of chronic illness, maternal mortality, and a lower life expectancy. These disparities are linked to systemic racism, bias in care, and socioeconomic inequities. Furthermore, black women are faced with a much higher prevalence of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, and obesity.
